Issues

Rent Control

About one-third of Pico Rivera residents are renters. Landlords can raise the rent as much as they want with just a 30- or 60-day notice. How are you supposed to afford your bills when your rent goes up but your wages don’t? The stress is real. We need rent control laws that still allow landlords to make a reasonable profit but prevent greedy and corporate landlords from drastically increasing rents.

Respecting the Houseless

Because the rents are so high, people become homeless. There are family, social, and health reasons, too. Sleeping in our cars is the best alternative for some of us. But Municipal Code 10.42 makes that illegal. We should repeal laws that make life harder for the houseless.

Clean Energy

The city already gets over 50% of its electricity from clean and sustainable sources. Let’s continue to improve on that.

Workers Rights

Pico Rivera provides some great services and events, from park and swimming events for kids and adults, to maintaining our streets and infrastructure. City employees make it all happen. We need to treat them fairly and support them so they can continue to help improve our city.
